A Clinical Experience with the Vacuum Constrictor Device in Impotence



Abstract
We applied the vacuum constrictor device to 67 impotent patients, of whom 20(29%) obtained the desirable erection. Nineteen patients used the devices for intercourse, although 12 had one or more problems with its usage: difficulty in usage (3
cases),
difficulty in intercourse caused by the pivot (3 cases), cold sensation (3 cases), loosening and tearing of the ring (2 cases), penile pain caused by the ring (1 case) and skin discoloration (1 case). There were no serious ill effect from use of
the
device. Eleven patients (57%) were capable of ejaculation, and 12 (63%) experiences orgasms. However, the satisfaction rate of the sexual partner 931%) was low.
In conclusion, the vacuum constrictor device is a good alternative therapy to surgical treatment and intracavernosal injection of vasoactive drugs in very selected patients with impotence.
